.....It may look like a house, but it's actually a church.  That makes it the Lord's house.
.....It's a place where the cross of Christ is proclaimed.  It's a place where people are gathered to receive the Lord's gifts.
.....Most people think you need lots of Christians to start a church.  That's simply not true.  The Lord and his gifts make the church.  The Lutheran East Side Mission was started so that the Lord and his gifts would be available to ALL people, especially those who live in Davenport's urban east side neighborhoods.  The Lutheran East Side Mission exists because God "desires all to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." (1 Timothy 2:4)
.
At the Lutheran East Side Mission....
.........The Gospel of Christ crucified is central.
.........Catechisms are used for easier understanding of the Scriptures.
..........Divine Worship occurs every Sunday at 11:30 AM.
..........Sunday School and Bible Study follow every Sunday Service.
..........Special services occur throughout the year.
..........A bus is available to pick up families who are without transportation.
..........Bibles and other Christian materials are given to those who request them.
.
The LESM is supported by the Iowa District East of LCMS, by member congregations of the Davenport (IA) Circuit of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, by financial and service gifts from other Lutheran congregations and individuals, and by financial and service grants from various organizations.

The member congregations of the Davenport Circuit are St. Paul, Bennett; Our Savior, Bettendorf; Park View Lutheran, Park View/Eldridge; and Holy Cross, Immanuel, Risen Christ, and Trinity, all in Davenport.

HAPPENINGS AT THE MISSION

Spring weather is near, soon we will be outdoors feeling the warmth of the sun on our face realizing how blessed we are that God once again has re-created the beauty of spring. Families are excited during those first warm evenings having cookouts while the children enjoy outdoor play as we reconnect with spring. Think how amazed Adam and Eve must have been to experience nothing but the beauty of spring-like weather while in the safety of God’s presence. But because of sin darkness fell, however, there is nothing in our days that we cannot face when we fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. As we walk boldly into our future we must not worry about what is on the road ahead, instead concentrate on staying in touch with our Creator. Know that He is there in a loved-one’s smile, a bird singing and in the golden sunlight, during joy and in times of trouble He is near. “Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.” Psalm 105:4

The children attending Sunday school and the Mission after School program are encouraged to continue on this path; seeking and trusting in our Lord. All of us are God’s children and we have two options, whether to trust in our loving God or worry; the mind controlled by the Spirit is a mind at peace. Thank you for your support and prayers for Lutheran East Side Mission, because of you our families know that God is our refuge and strength. Without your prayers, gracious giving of time and financial support the Mission would not be an open door for those who are lost and in need of prayers and guidance. You are part of God’s plan to restore His presence in a hurting world.

As you begin making plans for your spring calendar please remember the families of East Side Mission; we would love to be included in your church activities and youth events. To make a friend, you have to be one and we could stay friends forever. Knowing that Jesus is always with us, do not be afraid, Jesus calls us to be his disciples, spreading the gospel, teaching His word and sharing our relationship with Him. Thank you for being one of world’s best blessings. We pray you know how much you have blessed others today and in the future sharing God’s love.

If interested in making friends for life stop by the Mission during the After school program, Pastor Bob of Park View Lutheran has been helping during the program weekly and the children are just as excited today as they were the first day he visited us over three years ago. We are always eager to make new friends and would love to know if you have ideas or suggestions to improve and enhance our program. If you have a special talent such as playing an instrument, cooking, sewing, candle making, jewelry making, wood working or story telling, we have curious minds and eager little hands anxious to learn. Please consider visiting us Monday – Thursday, 3:00-5:00. If you want to share your talent and an evening fits your schedule or any other time please contact us at 563-323-6812.

Our Mission Board of Directors meets on the first Thursday every other month, 6:30 p.m. at the Mission. The Board members come together to share the best of ideas and always accomplish what needs to be done. We welcome guests to the board meetings and if you would like to discuss a topic during the meeting please contact us in advance to be scheduled on the agenda.

Blessings to you from all of us at Lutheran East Side Mission in Davenport.

Living to glorify God!

In His Service,

The Staff at Lutheran East Side Mission

NEEDS FOR THE MISSION

VAN DRIVERS are also needed every Sunday to pick up between 10 to 15 people for church.

We continue to need helpers and particularly male mentors for the young boys who attend our After School Program. We continue to need volunteers for Sunday School teachers for the summer and fall sessions.  Volunteering at the mission is an opportunity to exercise your faith and be a role model for people who need to see how a Christian lives and cares for others.

The pantry could always use some toothbrushes, canned fruit, and canned meat and paper products.

We would also appreciate any members of Davenport Circuit congregations willing to serve on our Mission Board.
