WORD AND SACRAMENT SERVICES HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED

The Lutheran East Side Mission was started so that the Lord and his gifts would be available to ALL people, especially those who live in Davenport's urban east side neighborhoods.  The Lutheran East Side Mission exists because God "desires all to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." (1 Timothy 2:4)
.

The LESM is supported by member congregations of the Davenport (IA) Circuit of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, by financial and service gifts from other Lutheran congregations and individuals, and by financial and service grants from various organizations.

The member congregations of the Davenport Circuit are St. Paul, Bennett; Our Savior, Bettendorf; Park View Lutheran, Park View/Eldridge; and Holy Cross, Immanuel, Risen Christ, and Trinity, all in Davenport.

Summertime at Lutheran East Side Mission

We are thankful for Christian friends praying for the Mission and the work we do, Lutheran East Side Mission can make a difference in lives seeking Christian guidance and help to grow faith in the lives of all ages. With the Lord present we find abundant joy through prayer, obedience, and trust. The Holy Spirit is present for all God’s people and we find our identity in Jesus and His finished work.

Our work at East Side Mission is never finished; the Mission Board meets bi-monthly at 6:30, the first Thursday of the Month at Lutheran East Side Mission. We welcome visitors; please contact us in advance if you would like to add a topic to the agenda to discuss or are interested in becoming a Board member. We are seeking new Board members and volunteers. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 4:11

The Summer Program is tentatively set to open the week of June 13th and is offered for children Pre-K through the 6th grade. Any Junior High/High School students looking for a service project or are needing volunteer hours can assist with our summer program and there are many other areas in need of volunteers at the Mission. If College students are looking for an internship please consider the Mission as an opportunity to complete those hours while serving the Lord. This summer we are planning a campout, trips to nearby parks, farm visits, various field trips and endless opportunities for the children, staff and volunteers to witness God’s Grace and Mercy. Join us as we pray together and share our faith, time, talents, and ideas while enjoying fun and fellowship as we witness what the Lord can do through you. During the week of July 25th – 27th, the Mission children will be attending Grace Lutheran Camp in Dewitt, IA. If you would like to sponsor a child for camp the fee is only $25.00 per child. As followers of Christ, we have the opportunity to bless countless persons in our lifetimes; what a great opportunity to be an influence in the lives of those around you.

Anyone interested in receiving a schedule for the Mission’s Faith-Based Summer Program you can call or e-mail us to request a calendar of events at esmdav@gmail.com .

During the summer months Mission costs increase due to more children attending and the Mission covers all expenses for admissions and field trips. Thrivent members please consider directing your Choice Dollars or signing up for an Action Team. Thrivent members can direct Choice Dollars to the Mission by contacting Thrivent at 800-847-4836; it only takes a few minutes with no cost to you. Thrivent Members can also work with Mission staff and volunteers taking a few minutes of your time to lead an Action Team which provides the Mission with $250 to help with the children’s programs and project updates to the Mission.

The Ladies Bible Study meets twice monthly at 5:30; due to scheduling, dates are announced monthly, please call for those dates and let us know if you can join us so we can prepare for the group size. We enjoy a light meal, devotion, bible study and often a fun, easy-to-make craft is available for those who enjoy crafting.

The Lord lives in our hearts; our heart is the Lord’s home. We recognize that we all need spiritual housecleaning. We need to let God clean us up and renew us so He can live and shine more clearly through us. What is God’s will for your life? As you abide in Christ, your desires will be those that Christ wants for you. What is in your heart? Do you ache for those who are lost? Then reach them and teach those who do not know the Lord.

On a lighter note and changing the direction about housecleaning, as you finish up your spring cleaning please keep the Mission families in mind when you donate unwanted household items, clothing, shoes and toys. If you no longer need or want it we humbly accept almost anything including gently used bedding, linens and dishes. We will gladly pick up the donations at your convenience.

If you would like to know more about volunteering at Lutheran East Side Mission please contact our office at

563-323-6812.

May you enjoy the beauty of the summer and all God’s gifts.

The Mission Staff.

NEEDS FOR THE MISSION

We continue to need helpers and particularly male mentors for the young boys who attend our After School Program.   Volunteering at the mission is an opportunity to exercise your faith and be a role model for people who need to see how a Christian lives and cares for others.

The pantry could always use some canned fruit, and canned meat and paper products.

We would also appreciate any members of Davenport Circuit congregations willing to serve on our Mission Board.
