What Language do YOU Speak?
Summer is knocking on our door, schools are preparing for the scholastic year’s end and the kids are planning their activities that come this time of year, and maybe a vacation or two might happen. Each season has its activities that follow the time of year -- the Church is no different. We are entering what is known as the church growth season, meaning we have the readings focused on spreading the sweetest Gospel to the world that needs Christ.
The Coming of the Holy Spirit – Acts 2:1-8
2 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. 6 And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. 7 And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language?
The Holy spirit has filled us and has given us beautiful gifts, faith being the greatest. So, what do we do? How should we see this time in our lives? Let’s face it, I have PLANS and My Summer is already filled with Activities and Barbeques. I am right there with you, especially the BARBEQUES!!!! Simple, don’t change a thing. WAIT a minute, Pastor, did you just say, go and have fun and don’t think about God, Church and all that stuff? No, that’s not what I’m saying at all. The biggest misconception of being a Christian is the activities we do must look just like worship service or we have to have our bibles in hand at all times and look like we are doing the Lord’s work. When we are truly living as the children of God, we show our lives as children of God. Meaning, we love our neighbors. No matter where you go, be who you are. On vacation, greet all as you would greet people in worship service. Be kind to strangers as Christ is kind. Pray for your meals, yes even in public places. Go to Church on Sundays, again YES, when you’re on vacation. Our lives don’t change or are on hold during summer. Our lives always reflect our faith in Christ, who has saved us.
The Great Commandment – Mark 12:28-31
28 And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” 29 Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
No matter the season, year, or moment, we are children of God. Love each other without worry.
